At LRV 60 this is a versatile, whole-room color rather than a statement shade. It has enough lightness to cover walls in bedrooms, living rooms, hallways, and open kitchens without making a space feel closed in, and enough softness to avoid the glare of a bright white.

It is a strong cabinet color for anyone who wants a quiet alternative to white kitchen cabinets. Its cool green lean reads as a gentle, modern gray on doors and looks natural next to wood counters and both brass and nickel hardware.

Outside, its coastal-greige character suits siding on beach and transitional homes, and it works on shutters or a garage door where you want tone without contrast. As trim it is usually too deep, since trim reads best a few steps lighter. Save the crisp whites in your palette for trim and let Cool December carry the larger surfaces.

With an LRV of 60, Cool December bounces a good amount of light without turning glossy or clinical. That mid-to-light band makes it sensitive to the direction of your windows.

In north-facing rooms, which get cool, indirect light, the green and gray both deepen and the color can feel a little cooler and grayer. In south-facing rooms with strong, warm sun, it brightens and the green softens, often looking like a clean pale gray. East light in the morning is cool and can pull out the green, while west rooms warm up in the afternoon and calm it down.

Bulb choice matters just as much. Warm white bulbs around 2700K take the chill off and push it toward greige. Cooler bulbs at 4000K and up emphasize the gray-green and can make it feel sharper. Always judge a sample under the bulbs you actually own.

Against So Chic! (DET614), which shares nearly the same LRV at 61, the two are close, but So Chic! reads a hair warmer and flatter while Cool December keeps its faint cool green lean. Choose Cool December when you want that touch of coolness, and So Chic! when you want a more neutral greige.

Silhouette (DE6276) is a bit deeper at LRV 56. On walls that extra depth is noticeable in lower light, so Silhouette can feel slightly heavier and more shadowed. Pick it if Cool December washes out in your bright room, and stay with Cool December if you want to hold onto lightness.

Dolphin Tales (DET600) at LRV 57 is a cooler, more purely gray version with less of the green cast. In a north-facing room Dolphin Tales can lean colder, while Cool December keeps a slightly softer, more coastal feel.

For trim and ceilings, pair it with a clean white that stays a few steps lighter. Whisper (DEW340), at LRV 84, gives a soft, bright trim without a hard blue edge, and Swiss Coffee (DEW342), also LRV 84, adds a slightly warmer, creamier frame if you want the room to feel cozier.

For a second wall color or an adjoining room, Dover Cliffs (DEC771) at LRV 67 is a touch lighter and warmer, keeping flow while adding subtle contrast. Forever Linen (DEC756) at LRV 60 sits at the same lightness but leans warmer, good for a connected space.

For accents and depth, Battleship Gray (DET636) at LRV 22 makes a grounded mid-tone for an island or built-ins, and Maiden Voyage (DEA178), a deep blue at LRV 8, is a strong front-door or accent-wall color. Warm woods and both brass and brushed nickel metals all sit comfortably against it.
