Valspar Quail Egg

At LRV 60, Quail Egg is a versatile whole-room wall color rather than a statement shade. It is bright enough for main living spaces, bedrooms, and hallways, yet warm enough to feel cozy in a dining room or entry. In open-plan homes it works as the single connecting color across several rooms.

It also makes a good warm cabinet color for a kitchen or built-ins when you want something softer than white but not a strong color. On trim it can work, though it usually looks best as the wall with a cleaner white on the trim for contrast.

Outside, its mid-light value suits siding and stucco on traditional and cottage-style homes, giving a warm neutral body color. For a front door you would generally pair it with a deeper accent rather than use Quail Egg itself, since a door usually wants more contrast.

With an LRV of 60, Quail Egg is a light-mid color. It bounces a fair amount of daylight, so rooms stay bright, but it holds enough depth to avoid the washed-out, clinical look that very high-LRV whites can have.

In north-facing rooms, the cooler light tames its warmth and it can read as a soft, quiet greige. East light in the morning warms it up, then it settles cooler by afternoon. West rooms do the reverse, going golden in the evening. South-facing rooms get the most consistent warm light, which pushes Quail Egg toward its sandy, beige side all day.

Bulb choice matters just as much. Warm 2700K bulbs deepen the yellow; cooler 3500K to 4000K bulbs mute it and let the gray show. If you want it to stay balanced, aim for a neutral bulb around 3000K.

Quail Egg's closest neighbors in the Valspar deck are all a little lighter. Understated T650 at LRV 63.9 shares the same warm greige character but reflects a bit more light, so it reads slightly airier on a wall. If Quail Egg feels a touch heavy in a darker room, Understated is the safer step up.

Parlour Taupe 7003-1 at LRV 62.8 leans more clearly toward taupe and brown, so it feels warmer and earthier than Quail Egg. Choose it when you want more visible color and less gray.

Barest Celadon M244 at LRV 64 pulls the other way, with a faint green-gray cast rather than yellow. In a cool north room it can look almost soft sage next to Quail Egg's warmth. Pick Barest Celadon for a cooler, quieter neutral and Quail Egg when you want the room to feel warm.

For crisp trim, reach for a clean white well above Quail Egg's value. Ultra White 7006-24 at LRV 92 gives the sharpest contrast, while Du Jour 7002-16 at LRV 87 or Swiss Coffee 7002-9 at LRV 84 keep things a touch softer and warmer.

For a second wall color in the same warm family, Filtered Shade 4007-1A at LRV 65 is a near sibling for an adjoining space, and Snowy Pine 4007-1C at LRV 76 steps it up lighter for ceilings or a lighter zone.

For accents and depth, a muted green like Polished Pine 5006-2B at LRV 11 or a deep blue like Lyndhurst Duchess Blue 5001-9A at LRV 8 works well on a front door, island, or accent wall. Cracked Pepper 4011-1 at LRV 5 gives a near-black anchor. Warm wood tones and either brushed brass or matte black hardware also sit comfortably with it.
