Persimmon paint colors

Persimmon is an orange that leans red. The orange keeps it warm and energetic, while the red pulls it back from the bright, candy feel of a pure orange. That balance is what separates a good persimmon from a cheap-looking one.

The undertones decide everything. A version with too much yellow drifts toward pumpkin or marigold, while too much red tips it into terracotta or brick. The persimmon you want holds a clear red-orange middle, rich but not muddy, so it reads as a confident color rather than a faded one.

That depth is the point. Persimmon on a full wall delivers a bold, enveloping warmth, but in a dim room it can go dark and heavy. The more daylight a space gets, the more the orange-red glows; the less light it gets, the more it leans toward a deep brick tone.

Persimmon shines in rooms where you want energy and warmth. Entryways, dining rooms, powder rooms, and accent walls all suit it, and it pairs naturally with wood tones and warm metals. South- and west-facing rooms flatter it most, because warm afternoon light deepens the red-orange instead of flattening it.

It struggles in north-facing rooms and low-light spaces, where it can turn muddy and lose its glow. It is also a lot of color for a large open-plan area, so most people are happier using it on one wall, a built-in, or a smaller room rather than wrapping an entire great room in it.

Crisp warm white trim and ceilings let persimmon stay the star without fighting it. A bright cool white can look stark against the warmth, so a soft white or creamy white usually frames it better. Keeping the ceiling lighter than the walls helps a medium-depth color like this feel open instead of closing in.

For coordinating colors, lean on neutrals and cooler partners that calm the heat. Warm grays, deep teals, navy, and earthy greens all balance persimmon well, and natural wood and rattan reinforce its autumn roots. If you want contrast, a muted blue-green across the room reads as a clean opposite without clashing.

Persimmon is mixed to order, not pulled off a shelf. The hex is a digital benchmark, so the practical path is to match that target in the brand and finish you prefer and have the store tint it for you. Any major US brand can get close, which means you choose based on the paint quality and sheen you want, not on whose swatch happens to say persimmon.
