Aluminum Siding paint calculator
Aluminum siding is paint-friendly once it's clean and the chalky old finish is removed. Coverage is ~350 sq ft/gal on smooth panels. Bonding primer + two coats of exterior acrylic = 15+ years of life. Aluminum is becoming rare — most homes from the 1960s–80s era.
Estimates round up to the nearest quart and are based on Kompozit's published coverage. Buy slightly more for touch-ups and color changes.
Strip the chalk first
Aluminum siding from the 70s/80s often has heavy oxidation chalking. Pressure-wash with a TSP solution, scrub stubborn areas, and rinse. Paint over chalk and you're painting a release layer — it'll peel.
Don't paint dark colors over light
Same heat-absorption issue as vinyl. Aluminum is more forgiving (it doesn't soften), but darker colors will fade faster on south-facing walls.
